Amirabdollahian made the comments late on Tuesday after meetings in Mauritania’s capital Nouakchott with President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani and Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug.
He told reporters that he had some constructive talks with Ould Ghazouani, adding that the two sides had discussed various mutual, regional and international issues during their meeting.
The top diplomat appreciated constructive and precious efforts made by the Mauritanian president to fight terrorism and to improve peace and security in the Western Sahara region, saying the Islamic Republic of Iran views those efforts as highly significant.
During the meeting, Amirabdollahian also conveyed greetings of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Ould Ghazouani.
Leading a high-ranking political delegation, Amirabdollahian left Tehran for Nouakchott on Tuesday morning.
The northwestern African country of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania became independent of France in 1960.
