Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani called on different Muslim sects to avoid tension and discord among Muslims, and asked them to maintain unity against the US and Israel.

Addressing a conference in Iran's Central city of Qom on Friday, Larijani criticized some Muslim sects for sowing discord in Islamic community.

"Unfortunately some sects are trying to create a rift among Muslims. Some cynics instead of waging a war against the US and its allies, including the Zionist regime are killing the Muslim nations," he stated.

Officials not just in Iran, but all throughout the region have on various occasions denounced extremist sectarian moves in certain countries, urging Muslim communities for more vigilance and unity.

In relevant remarks in October, Commander of Iran's Basij (volunteer) force Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi underlined the necessity of solidarity in the Muslim world, saying unity among Islamic sects foils enemies' plots and helps to the growth and expansion of Islamic awakening.

"Today, Shiites and Sunnis have together defused the inauspicious plots of the enemies of the Revolution through unity and brotherhood and expanded the Islamic awakening through unity, vigilance and awareness…" Naqdi said at the time.

Pointing to the growing tides of Islamic awakening in the region, he noted, "In Muslim states, the Islamic awakening is also the result of the unity between the Shiites and Sunnis."
