Following the rumors on the resignation of Hojat ul-Eslam Ali Akbar Nateq Nouri from Iran's Expediency Council spread by some political circles, his office announced he is still holding his both positions.

According to Khabar Online correspondent speaking to the staff of Nateq Nouri's office who denied such rumors, he is regularly attending both the Inspection Office of the Islamic Revolution's Supreme Leader and the sessions of the Expediency Council.

An advisor to the supreme leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Nateq Nouri was the Interior Minister of Mir Hossein Mousavi's cabinet from 1981 to 1985 and Iran's Parliament Speaker from 1992 to 2000.

He ran for the presidential election in 1997 when Mohammad Khatami became president with a landslide victory. Nateq Nouri congratulated Khatami before the final result was announced.

Nateq Nouri's office absolutely rejected baseless rumors on his withdrawal which have seemingly been fabricated by some political circles pursuing their own goals as the current term of the Expediency Council is ending.

Nateq Nouri has also been the head of the Inspection Office of the Islamic Revolution's Supreme Leader after the end of his term in the fifth Majlis (parliament).

He is a critic of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who leveled corruption accusations against Nateq Nouri during his campaign for the disputed election of June 2009.
