Iran's First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi says the country is one of the safest and most independent countries in the world for those who are interested in investing in oil and gas industries.

Speaking in the inaugural ceremony of Tehran’s 17th International Oil, Gas, Refining, and Petrochemical Exhibition on Tuesday, the official noted that Iran has about 11 percent of the global oil and 17 percent of its gas reserves and ranks the first in the world in terms of the value of its hydrocarbon reserves.

“Everybody knows that the Islamic Republic of Iran will be one of the biggest future energy suppliers and these reserves can provide the necessary feedstock and energy to various industries of Iran and other countries for many years with confidence at a competitive price,” he added.

Rahimi stated that Iran’s young and efficient indigenous specialists which have been trained to manage large-scale projects are a great and invaluable asset for the country and their experiences can be shared with other countries.

Referring to sanctions imposed on Iran by “arrogant” countries, the first vice president said those countries aim to stand against Iran's growth and development by imposing sanctions.

“However, due to efforts made by our country’s faithful specialists and scientists, these sanctions have turned into opportunities for progress and, as their result, the number of participants in this exhibition is 10 percent higher than that of last year,” he added.

Rahimi noted that an average of about 60 percent of the necessary know-how and technology for manufacturing advanced equipment for various fields of the oil and gas industry has been indigenized.

“In the previous years and before the unjust sanctions of enemies [were imposed on Iran], most equipment needed for this industry was imported from other countries,” he said.

The 17th International Oil, Gas, Refining, and Petrochemical Exhibition was officially inaugurated at Tehran’s permanent International Fairgrounds on Tuesday morning.

According to director of the 17th exhibition, Eshaq Rouyvar, a total of 940 Iranian and 315 foreign companies from more than 40 countries including the UK, the US and Germany have taken part in this year’s event.
