Iran welcomes normalizing relations with Riyadh: FM

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has expressed Tehran’s readiness for normalizing relations with Baghdad in case of the same preparedness on the Saudi side.

Amirabdollahian made the remarks speaking to reporters in the end of his visit to Amman for taking part in a conference on Iraq.

The foreign minister said that he and his Saudi counterpart met on the sidelines of the Amman conference where he had said that anytime the Saudis are ready for the restoration of normal relations, Iran will welcome that.

He also said that he had a chance to have a two-hour meeting with EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell and his deputy Enrique Mora in Amman, where they once again discussed issues surrounding the negotiations on the removal of sanctions on Tehran.

Amirabdollahian said that he had condemned hypocritical remarks by the US side, noting that they took measures that did not match their words.

He stressed that the US repeatedly said that it welcomed the return of all the involved parties to a 2015 nuclear deal with Iran while they had hypocritical media behavior.

“We emphasized that if the claim of the Americans for diplomatic follow-up is true, they cannot seek concessions in the media in another way,” the foreign minister said.

He believed that different parties are returning to realism, noting that if the redlines are observed, Iran is ready to take the final steps to an agreement.
