Iran Executes Convicted Mossad Spy Aghil Keshavarz

Iranian authorities have carried out the execution of Aghil Keshavarz, who was convicted of espionage in favor of the Israeli regime, after the sentence was upheld by the Supreme Court and all legal procedures were completed.

According to KhabarOnline, According to official information, Keshavarz was arrested in May 2025 in the city of Urmia, after a patrol unit of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army’s Protection Organization identified suspicious activity during a routine mission.

Officers observed a young man photographing the headquarters building of the Urmia Infantry Division. He was immediately detained and, following judicial authorization, handed over to the relevant authorities.

During initial questioning, Keshavarz claimed he had traveled to Urmia to attend an academic conference at Urmia University. However, a search of his mobile phone revealed messages from an Israeli phone number and a contact using the username “Osher,” significantly strengthening suspicions of links to the Israeli regime. Further inspections of his place of residence led to the discovery of additional documents and evidence.

At the hotel where Keshavarz was staying, security forces found a coded notebook containing the names and addresses of several security institutions. Following preliminary investigations, he was transferred to a detention facility.

Background and Ideological Links

Investigations into Keshavarz’s personal and family background revealed monarchist leanings among some family members. His uncle was also found to have a history of membership and support for the terrorist group known as the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK). Authorities stated that Keshavarz had previously carried out operational activities for the MEK as well.

Keshavarz, son of Javad, had initially enrolled in mining engineering in 2015 but left university after failing several courses and later continued his studies in architecture.

Communication With Israeli Intelligence

According to court documents, Keshavarz established contact with Israeli intelligence and security services through cyberspace. During his period of cooperation, he maintained separate communication channels with both the Israeli army and the Mossad intelligence service.

In the early stages, he reportedly sent anti–Islamic Republic messages to gain the trust of Israeli contacts. To further demonstrate his cooperation, he provided information about a warehouse rumored to be a missile production site, submitting details to an Israeli military website. He was subsequently asked for more extensive information.

His cooperation formally expanded as he was encouraged to submit additional reports. Keshavarz later provided the locations, descriptions, and reasons for suspicion regarding four other warehouses and buildings. He then knowingly entered into direct contact with the Mossad intelligence service.

In messages exchanged with a Mossad officer, Keshavarz was asked to specify how he could assist the Israeli regime. To build trust, he sent details of his previous missions along with supporting materials.

Scope of Espionage Activities

Based on investigations and confessions, Keshavarz had carried out more than 200 missions for Israeli intelligence prior to his arrest. These activities took place in several Iranian cities, including Tehran, Isfahan, Urmia, and Shahroud.

His assignments reportedly included photographing sensitive sites, placing markers, conducting opinion polling, and monitoring traffic patterns around specific locations, all under the direction of Mossad officers.

Cooperation With the MEK

Investigators also determined that in 2022, Keshavarz established contact via Telegram with groups affiliated with the MEK. He allegedly cooperated by sending images and carrying out slogan-writing activities requested by group administrators.

Financial Support From Mossad

After confirmation of his cooperation with the Mossad by a liaison officer, Keshavarz set up a cryptocurrency wallet and shared its details with his handler. According to the case file, Mossad officers transferred payments in digital currency after each mission and sent transaction receipts to him.

Confession and Legal Proceedings

Court documents state that Keshavarz was fully aware that he was cooperating with the Israeli army and the Mossad intelligence service. In his confessions, he explicitly admitted that he had collaborated with Israeli-linked services with the intention of harming the Islamic Republic of Iran and had provided them with sensitive information.

Following the completion of investigations, an indictment was issued charging Keshavarz with espionage in favor of the Israeli regime and intelligence cooperation with a hostile state.

After court sessions attended by the defendant and his lawyer, the court, citing documentary evidence, technical data, photographic materials, and Keshavarz’s clear confessions regarding his recruitment and missions, sentenced him to death in accordance with the law.

The verdict was later upheld by the Supreme Court, and the death sentence was carried out early Saturday morning, December 20, 2025.
