Secretary of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights Kazem Gharibabadi said on Tuesday that the international community is experiencing the most severe examples of politicizing and instrumental use of international mechanisms in dealing with human rights issues.
He believed that the minimum support for the extension of Javaid Rehman’s mission for another year was indicative of the disapproval of the countries with political approaches to human rights.
Despite all the pressures, once again the total countries that declined to support the resolution with their no votes or abstentions are more than the votes in favor of the resolution, the official said, adding that this proved the resolution was political and not of human rights nature.
He said that the resolution was initiated by the UK and supported by its Western allies which have a black record in dealing with human rights.
“The countries that voted in favor of the resolution cannot claim to support the human rights of the Iranian people because they are directly or indirectly the major violators of the rights of the Iranian people as a result of the cruel and illegal unilateral sanctions imposed by the American regime.”
