An Iranian lawmaker says a group of Iranian legislators are set to submit a motion to impeach Minister of Labor, Cooperatives and Social Welfare Abdolreza Sheikholeslami.

“The [motion for the] impeachment of the minister of labor has been drawn up in eight clauses and will be submitted to the Majlis Presiding Board in a few minutes,” Fars news agency quoted Head of the Research Center of Iran’s Majlis Ahmad Tavakkoli as saying on Tuesday.

Twenty legislators have signed the impeachment motion, he added.

Under the Iranian Constitution, members of the Iranian parliament can impeach an individual minister in instances they deem necessary. Impeachment can be submitted if it bears the signatures of at least 10 lawmakers.

The motion comes after Sheikholeslami appointed former Tehran's Chief Prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi as the head of the country’s Social Security Organization.

Mortazavi is accused of involvement in the incidents at the Kahrizak detention center in the post-2009 election unrest that led to the death of three detainees.

In December 2009, a statement from the Judicial Organization for the Armed Forces announced that, according to forensic information, three of those detained during the country's post-election events died while being held at the Kahrizak facility.
