Raisi calls for accelerating relief operation in quake-hit Khoy

Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi has called for speeding up relief operations and providing quake-stricken people with shelters in Khoy county, West Azarbaijan Province.

Raisi urged West Azarbaijan governor general Mohammad-Saegh Mo’tamedian in a phone call on Friday, as the president’s third follow-up of efforts to help the quake-ravaged residents.

Referring to the cold weather in the quake-affected areas, the president called on the governor general to provide the people with temporary accommodations and basic needs.

Raisi also urged for accelerating reconstruction of earthquake-stricken buildings.

Mo’tamedian, for his part, underlined that some 60 temporary accommodations have been set up in Khoy so far, and that the number would increase to 100 shelters in the near future.

According to the official, the damages of around 12k residential units in urban and rural areas have been assessed and more than 25k tents have been distributed to the people.

On January 28, an earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale jolted the city of Khoy, West Azarbaijan Province in northwest Iran.
