Tehran has condemned a message from NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte congratulating U.S. President Donald Trump following an airstrike against Iran, calling the gesture “disgraceful, despicable and irresponsible.”

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei issued a strongly worded response on his official X account on Wednesday, saying the endorsement of such an act of aggression reflected a dangerous disregard for international norms.

“It is disgraceful, despicable and irresponsible for #NATO’s SG to congratulate a ‘truly extraordinary’ criminal act of aggression against a sovereign State,” Baqaei said.

“Who endorses an injustice lacks integrity. Who supports a crime is regarded as complicit,” he added.

Trump released screenshots of personal messages from the NATO secretary general in which he had praised the U.S. president’s decision to carry out aggressive attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities in support of Israel.
