Start of the SCO Members’ “Sahand-2025” Counterterrorism Drill Hosted by the IRGC

The IRGC Ground Forces will host a major counterterrorism exercise titled “Sahand-2025.” The drill will take place in East Azerbaijan Province with the participation of member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

According to Khabar Online, the joint counterterrorism exercise of SCO member countries, named “Sahand-2025,” will be conducted under the hosting of the IRGC Ground Forces in East Azerbaijan Province.

Colonel Shahram Askerian, Deputy for Public Relations of the IRGC Ground Forces, stated that Sahand-2025, designed in accordance with directives from the General Staff of the Armed Forces and involving coordination among the IRGC, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure, carries significant strategic importance.

Referencing Iran’s extensive history and actions in combating terrorism, he added: The Islamic Republic of Iran has always been a frontline center in the fight against terrorism and terrorist groups. More than 17,000 of our compatriots, including women and children, have been martyred by terrorist organizations.

The exercise is scheduled to begin on Monday, December 1, 2025, for a period of five days, in the operational area of the Imam Zaman (may God hasten his reappearance) Mechanized Brigade in Shabestar County. Additional details and operational programs will be announced in due course.
