The 16th round of political talks between the directors-general of the Iranian and Japanese foreign ministries was held in Tehran on Wednesday.

The meeting was chaired by Ali Asghar Mohammadi, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director-General for Asia and the Pacific Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Keiichi Iwamoto, Assistant Minister and Director-General of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

In the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interest in various bilateral areas and important regional and international issues.

The sides expressed their satisfaction with the favorable trend of political consultations between the two countries at various levels and issues and expressed their interest in exchanging high-ranking delegations, including the visit of the Japanese Foreign Minister to Tehran, and identifying new routes for further cooperation and coordination on bilateral, regional and international issues with the aim of helping to establish international peace and security.

The Japanese diplomat also met and held talks with Majid Takht Ravanchi, Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs while in in Tehran.
