Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan visits strengthen Iran’s neighborhood policy: Pezeshkian

President Masoud Pezeshkian has stressed that his visits to Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan resulted in constructive and positive achievements that strengthen the Islamic Republic’s policy of improving relations with its neighboring countries.

Speaking on Friday evening upon his return to Tehran, President Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran is committed to deepening ties with its neighbors, and that the meetings and negotiations held during the trip led to valuable agreements across multiple sectors.

The president highlighted the signing of 14 cooperation documents with Kazakhstan, describing the agreements as beneficial not only for both countries but for the broader region. He noted that a delegation of Iranian economic players accompanied him on the trip and succeeded in reaching encouraging understandings with their Kazakh counterparts.

The president added that talks on cultural and health cooperation also advanced well. During the Kazakhstan visit, he toured a major university and a state-of-the-art hospital in Astana, where discussions focused on expanding collaboration in medical sciences, biotechnology, and digital health.

Pezeshkian said the interactions and agreements with Kazakh officials were highly constructive, reinforcing long-term bilateral cooperation.

Regarding his trip to Turkmenistan to attend the International Forum of Peace and Trust, Pezeshkian noted that he held productive meetings with the country’s national leader and president. The discussions revisited previous bilateral agreements and yielded new understandings aimed at enhancing cooperation.

He also detailed several diplomatic engagements on the sidelines of the forum. President Pezeshkian met with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, where both sides reviewed existing agreements and assessed steps needed to accelerate the implementation of the Treaty on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation.

Additionally, the Iranian president held talks with the senior officials of Pakistan, Iraq, and Myanmar, and exchanged brief remarks with the presidents of Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan. He noted that such multilateral events create rare opportunities for numerous diplomatic meetings that would otherwise require dozens of separate trips.

Pezeshkian concluded by saying that the overall outcomes of the visit marked a meaningful step forward in advancing Iran’s neighborhood diplomacy.
