Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson hails the constructive outcomes of the recent talks between Iran and the UN nuclear agency, calling on the sides to work together to resolve outstanding issues, Press TV reports.

“Strengthening dialogue and cooperation between the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and Iran is of benefit to arriving at a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear energy issue,” Hong Lei told reporters on Wednesday.

“Under the current circumstances, we call the two sides to strengthen dialogue and cooperation to solve their outstanding issues,” he added.

Iran and the IAEA resumed the two-day negotiations in Vienna, Austria, on Monday, three months after the last round of talks in the Iranian capital of Tehran.

Iran and the UN nuclear agency held two rounds of talks in Tehran in January and February.

The new round of the talks between Iran and the IAEA comes as Tehran and the P5+1 (Britain, France, Russia, China, the United States and Germany) are preparing to hold another meeting in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad on May 23.

Iran and the P5+1 wrapped up the first round of their latest multifaceted negotiations on April 14 in the Turkish city of Istanbul. Both sides hailed talks as constructive.

China and Russia, the two veto-wielding powers at the UN Security Council, have frequently voiced their support for a diplomatic settlement of Iran's nuclear energy issue.
