S. African, Iranian FMs discuss bilateral ties

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his South African counterpart Naledi Pandor in a telephone conversation discussed mutual cooperation.

The top Iranian diplomat pointed to the significance of Africa in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic while underlining that Tehran is determined to expand ties with the continent in particular with South Africa.

Pointing to preparations to hold the 15th Joint Economic Commission of the two countries, he expressed hope that both sides can utilize opportunities and capacities to enhance cooperation.

Amirabdollahian also expressed gratitude to South Africa for its constructive stance when it comes to supporting Palestine.

On the war in Ukraine, the Iranian official noted that Tehran will continue its efforts to help promote ceasefire in Ukraine.

For her part, Pandor referred to the important position of the Islamic Republic, stressing the need for implementing agreements of the joint commission.

She also expressed hope that the talks on Iran's nuclear program will bear fruit as soon as possible.

The South African official also said that her country's President Cyril Ramaphosa has invited his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi to visit South Africa, hoping that the trip can improve bilateral ties.
