3+3 format effective mechanism to resolve regional issues: Iran FM

Iran’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Hossein Amirabdollahian has underlined that the 3+3 format is an effective mechanism to resolve regional issues without interference by extra-regional powers.

Amirabdollahian made the remark in a meeting with Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan in Tehran on Tuesday.

The top Iranian diplomat said that the Islamic Republic emphasizes the necessity of maintaining international borderlines and observing the territorial integrity of countries, adding that regional issues should be resolved by regional states without foreign intervention.

He further expressed satisfaction with the growing relationship between Iran and Armenia, hoping that the volume of mutual trade exchanges will reach three billion dollars per annum, which requires a comprehensive and long-term cooperation agreement.

The Iranian FM also noted that Iran is ready to send humanitarian aid to Armenia for Nagorno-Karabakh refugees.

Grigoryan, for his part, appreciated Iran’s stance towards the territorial integrity of Armenia, saying that Yerevan is determined to expand its ties with Tehran. He also noted that Armenia sees Iran’s role in the South Caucasus developments and the sustainable peace in the region as important and constructive.

Iran’s embassy in Yerevan declared the arrival of the first shipment of humanitarian aid from Iran to Syunik province in southern Armenia.
