As part of broader efforts to coordinate group repatriations, Washington reached an agreement with Tehran to facilitate the return of Iranian nationals facing deportation, transporting them to Tehran on charter flights. Previously, the U.S. had repatriated Iranians individually on commercial flights.

One of the Iranian officials said that the Russian and Arab passengers on board will disembark in Cairo, after which the Iranian nationals will continue to Kuwait and then proceed to Tehran on a Kuwaiti charter airline.

Mojtaba Sheshti Karimi, Director General of Consular Services at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told local media on Sunday that Iran expects 55 Iranian nationals to arrive from the United States in the coming days.

He added that members of this group expressed their desire to return due to what he described as the U.S. government’s “racist and anti-immigration policies,” and said Tehran had received reports of “inhumane treatment” of Iranians held in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention centers.

The first charter flight carrying Iranian nationals departed in September and landed in Tehran in early October after transiting through Qatar.
