'Iranian, Turkish armed forces must continue military coop.'

Chief of General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Bagheri has said that the armed forces of Iran and the neighboring Turkiye should continue their cooperation.

Bagheri made the remark on Thursday in a phone talk with Lieutenant General Yaşar Güler, who was appointed as Turkiye’s new defense minister on June 3.

The top Iranian general congratulated Güler on his new post.

Bagheri described Iran and Turkiye as “good and strategic neighbors”, saying that they share “friendly and peaceful borders”, which highlights the necessity of continued cooperation between their armed forces.

The top Iranian general also emphasized the need for bilateral meetings at different levels as well as holding joint military drills by the two countries.

He invited the Turkish defense minister to visit Iran as well.

The Turkish minister on his part stressed the importance of increasing military ties between the two neighboring countries.

He also expressed gratitude to Iran for its “brotherly and friendly” support to Turkiye in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in February this year.
