Iran condoles with South Korean people over deadly stampede

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani on Sunday expressed Iran's condolences with South Korean government and nation over a stampede during a festival in the country in which dozens of people were killed.

Kanaani also sympathized with the families of the victims.

He expressed hope that the South Korean officials will take the necessary measures to identify the bodies of all the victims as soon as possible.

The spokesman said that the Iranian embassy in Seoul has confirmed that the bodies of five Iranian nationals have so far been found among those killed in the incident.  

The Iranian embassy has been following the case since the very early hours of the incident to get full information about the conditions of the Iranian nationals and the condition of those possibly injured or missing, Kanaani said.

He noted that legal and consular follow-up of the case of the Iranian nationals killed in the incident will be high on the agenda of the Iranian embassy.
