Kanaani made the comments on Thursday in reaction to recent statements by European leaders and finance ministers of the G7 group of developed countries as well as some American and European officials regarding Iran and the latest developments in West Asia. That comes amid escalating tensions following an Israeli attack on the Iranian diplomatic mission in Syria on April 1 and Iran’s punitive measure at the weekend.
Kanaani noted that the latest allegations and stances are in line with the double standards practiced by those parties, which he said is condemned and rejected.
The Iranian diplomat expressed regret that the so-called flag-bearers of international law and regulations remained silent on the Israeli regime’s attack on Iran’s consulate, but they condemned Iran’s legitimate and deterrent response to the attack that was in clear violation of the UN Charter and international conventions.
It is ridiculous that governments like the US and several European countries, which have waged and supported the biggest wars and occupations in the West Asia region over the past decades and protected the apartheid and criminal regime of Israel, are now expressing concern over regional and global peace and security, Kanaani said.
He added that European and G7 leaders know that the root cause of the crisis and instability in West Asia and wider in the world is the Israeli regime’s occupation of Palestine, its crimes against Palestinians, and depriving them of their basic and inalienable rights.
“These is no doubt that closing eyes to obvious facts and levelling unfounded accusations on others by the US and Europe will not solve any problems regarding regional and international security”, the spokesman said, adding that if the US and the European Union are really after lasting stability and tranquility in West Asia and the Red Sea, they should stand up against acts of aggression and bullying by the Zionist regime.
Kanaani also said that the armed forces of Iran will not hesitate to defend the country in the face of any threats while respecting regional and international peace and security.
