US still doing mischievous acts in Afghanistan: Iran envoy

The United States has continued its mischievous acts in Afghanistan and seeks to create concerns for Afghanistan’s neighbors, says Iran’s special envoy for Afghanistan.

Hassan Kazemi Qomi, Iran’s ambassador and special representative of the president for Afghanistan, said at the end of the Moscow Format Consultations on Afghanistan that the formation of a contact group by Afghanistan’s neighboring countries is the most important achievement of this year’s summit, the IRNA reported on Sunday.

“Although more than two years have passed since the Americans fled from Afghanistan, this country continues its mischief in Afghanistan and seeks to create concerns for the countries of the region, including Afghanistan’s neighbors,” he told IRIB news.

He argued that the economic and security challenges in Afghanistan are more than anything caused by the 20-year occupation of the country by the United States, NATO and their allies, as well as the destruction of its economic infrastructure and security foundations.

“By intensifying Afghanistan’s instability and insecurity, Washington intends to create conditions under which the concerns of Afghanistan’s neighbors and regional countries will continue,” the Iranian envoy noted.

“Washington intends to strengthen the Daesh–Khorasan to first make Central Asian countries insecure and then establish a base in these countries under the pretext of fighting Daesh,” Kazemi Qomi added.

The Moscow Format Consultations on Afghanistan includes Russia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

The fifth meeting of the consultations was held in the Russian city of Kazan on Friday.

The countries participating in the event highlighted the US occupation and its consequences on Afghanistan as the main cause of the country’s current situation.
