The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the illegal entry of the Israeli regime into Syrian territory and warned of the consequences of its continued warmongering and dominance-seeking attempts for peace and security in the region.

Esmaeil Baqaei made the remarks on Thursday following the recent action of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and several other leaders of the occupying Israeli regime in illegally entering Syrian territory.

Warning of the consequences of the regime’s ongoing warmongering for regional peace and security, Baqaei described this criminal act, carried out in continuation of repeated aerial and ground aggressions against Syria and the occupation of a significant part of the country’s southern territories, as a provocative measure aimed at consolidating and expanding occupation in southern Syria.

He emphasized the responsibility of the international community and the UN Security Council to compel the occupying regime to withdraw from all occupied areas in the Golan region and southern Syria.

Israeli media have reported that Netanyahu and several other Israeli leaders visited the Israeli-controlled buffer zone in southern Syria on Wednesday.

In a related development, the United Nations expressed concerns over the recent visit by senior Israeli officials to the buffer zone in southern Syria that separates the occupied Golan Heights from the rest of the Arab country.

“I think this very public visit is concerning, to say the least,” UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told a news conference on Wednesday, calling on the Israel regime “to respect the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
